Text Translator — Translate Text Online for Free

AI translation between English, Spanish, French and German — any of the four into any other, twelve combinations in all. Type or paste your text and the AI translates it in seconds. Choose your languages, type or paste your text, and press Translate — then copy the result or press Listen to hear it read aloud. Everything runs privately on our server with an offline engine, so your text isn't sent to any third-party translation service. No sign-up and no watermarks.

How to Translate Text

  1. Pick the language you're translating from and to (use the ⇄ button to swap them).
  2. Type or paste your text into the left box.
  3. Press Translate — the result appears on the right. Copy it, or press Listen to hear it spoken.

Every Direction, Not Just Into English

All twelve combinations of the four languages work, so this is not only for reading foreign text:

  • English → Spanish, French or German
  • Spanish → English, French or German
  • French → English, Spanish or German
  • German → English, Spanish or French

The swap button flips both the languages and the text, so you can translate something, then translate the answer back to check it says what you meant. Pairs that do not involve English are routed through it internally — nothing changes in how you use it, though a translation passing through two steps can read a little less naturally than a direct one.

How the AI Translation Works

This is neural machine translation — the same kind of AI behind the large translation services, rather than the word-by-word substitution older tools used. The model reads a whole sentence before writing anything, so it can get word order, grammatical gender and agreement right, and it handles idioms far better than a dictionary lookup ever did. The AI models run on our own server rather than being passed to an outside service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Set the left language to Spanish and the right to English, paste the text in, and press Translate. The same applies to French or German into English, and to English going the other way. The ⇄ button swaps both languages and the text in one click, which is useful when a conversation goes back and forth.

Up to 5,000 characters, which is roughly 800 words or two pages. The counter under the box shows how much you have used. For a whole document it is easier to use Translate Document, which reads the text out of a PDF or Word file and hands the translation back as a Word document.

Good enough to understand almost anything, and good enough to write with if you check it. Neural translation is strong on ordinary prose and weaker on three things: idioms that do not exist in the other language, names and technical terms it has no context for, and text with no punctuation, which leaves it guessing where sentences end. A quick way to test a sentence you are about to send is to translate it back — if it returns roughly what you wrote, it will read correctly.
